Basic: I have been living in Japan for 5 years and work in a real estate / investment company.
About Japanese:
I studied Japanese for 2 years in college in America, then by myself while working for 1.5 years in Japan. I passed the JLPT 1 in 2007 and worked as a translator for 3 years in real estate and IT. I currently don't translate much anymore since I switched to an administration job.
About Korean:
I started studying Korean after I passed the JLPT 1 because I like languages and have a lot of Korean friends. I am not into hallyu stuff.
I have been self-studying for almost 2 years now and plan to go for the TOPIK lv. 6 this year (2011). I live with my Korean boyfriend, but we only speak in Japanese to each other. We plant to move to Korea in a couple years.
About English:
The extent of my English usage is limited to this blog, facebook, and Emails to family. I actually kind of suck at speaking English sometimes because I never use it and all my friends speak Japanese or Korean. Last time I visited America my brother said "what's wrong with you?" because I sounded like a Japanese person trying to speak English.
I HATE speaking English in Asia because:
White people = only speak English = English teachers.
and I hate being stereotyped into a category I don't fit in.
